Me AseaMy Backstory-Condensed
The First Twenty-Eight Years

I was raised in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, an idyllic place with glassy lakes and primeval forests.  While attending high school, I took flying lessons and earned my private pilot's license to fly single-engine planes, mostly the Cessna 152.  After high school I spent a summer as a staffer in the U.S. Senate Computer Center, then moved to Moscow, Idaho, where I attended the University of Idaho and studied mechanical engineering. In the summers I sojourned in Idaho Falls, where I was a Student Fellow at the (then) Idaho National Engineering Laboratory, an outpost of the Department of Energy. Idaho Falls is the most disagreeable town in Idaho, and no one should have to spend five summers there. Unless, of course, one has the chance to do some sophisticated computer modeling and publish several journal articles with lofty-sounding titles. After earning an engineering degree, I promptly went across campus to enroll in the law school.

The Rest

After law school I took a position in Boise with Holland & Hart, a Denver-based firm. There I learned more about the practice of law than any young lawyer should know, so I fled to San Francisco at the first opportunity and took a job in Silicon Valley with Gray Cary Ware & Friedenrich, which has now been subsumed by the legal juggernaut, DLA Piper. After the dot-com crash, I became a sole practitioner in San Francisco.  Four years later, following some informal collaboration, I signed on with Jacobs & Ferraro, where I was of counsel for a few years.  Finally, in April 2008, Jacobs & Ferraro merged with Bullivant Houser Bailey, where I became of counsel in the Corporate Finance and Securities group.  When not working, I take black-and-white photographs with a Nikon F3 and a Toyo CF45.  I'm also interested in birds, James Joyce, politics, French, art, history, math, technology, philosophy and Zen Buddhism, among other things.
